Review of Child's Play (1993) by Daniel S — 08 Apr 2010
Having seen most of the sequels first, Child's Play turned out to be quite enjoyable and more serious than I thought it would be. We get to see the Good Guy show, the cereal, the Doll, and of course the Lakshore Strangler himself Charles Lee Ray, now known as Chucky.
Charles was in a gunbattle with cop Mike Norris which lead him into a toystore holding racks full of The Lovable Good Guy Dolls. When shot, and dying Charles transfers his body into one of the dolls, Chucky.
Chucky is eventually sold to the mother of young Andy Barclay, who is a big fan of the show and wants the Doll. Basically after that, Chucky Kills the Andy's babysitter, and tells Andy all this information, and when confronted no one believes Andy about what's going on between him and his doll.
Now, most of us would think a doll murderer is kind of dumb, but Child's Play actually pulls it off quite well. The dialogue was interesting, and Chucky's was the one you wanted to hear the most, because the things he says are just fun to hear, especially coming from a doll with a raspy voice.
The story actually worked too because we are told chucky needs a body for one, and plus he's going on a journey finding his VooDoo master guy, and some other people he knew as a human as well as following Andy along with his mom.
This is most deffinately a Definite Must See!
