Review of Child's Play (1993) by Ryan V — 30 Jun 2013
A serial killer (Brad Dourif) uses his voodoo powers to possess a doll upon being fatally wounded by police. He winds up in the arms of six-year-old Alex (Andy Barclay), but that doesn't stop him from continuing his grisly campaign under the moniker of "Chuckie".
Child's Play's silly premise is deftly exploited by director Tom Holland. The intentionally campy plot is paced well and the whole thing is boosted by the surprisingly impressive animatronics of the key villain.
While this may be damning the film with faint praise, I'll say that it's easily the paramount of horror films within the "killer doll" subgenre.
