Review of Children of the Corn (1984) by Chris M — 27 Jul 2010
Somehow, this meager and somewhat silly little slasher quickie has generated more sequels than I can count. The film opens with a bloody and genuinely disturbing bang as the town's children, all except two, brutally murder all of the town's adults. The most horrifying thing is just to see that a kindly little boy witnesses all of this gory mayhem, all in a brightly lit, friendly neighborhood diner. From then on out, you'd be forgiven for thinking this movie might be something horrifying and special, especially when we see Sarah Connor herself, Linda Hamilton, make a entrance. It's all peaches and cream, including an equally disturbing murder of another town child who disobeys "he who walks among the rows." The film goes downhill soon after, but it still remains entertaining, while loosing a lot of its effectiveness.
I'd say, check it out, but don't expect too much.
