Review of Children of the Corn (1984) by Robert A — 23 Sep 2011
After reading the story (30-40 pages long) I watched this finally. It was a let down. In the end this short story should have been adapted into a 30-40 minute short film... like.. say... the Creepshow films.
How they have 3-4 shorts combined into one film. The ending of the short story is classic in my opinion. The imagery I read for one will stuck with me. The ending was so creepy. In the film however they made a "happy?" ending.
The child acting is achingly bad in parts. The Isaac character is the creepiest thing in the movie, which is good, but goodness that little guy has a creepy voice and his face is pretty odd, makeup I guess?I wonder how on earth they made so many sequels in the years since.
There are 8 or 9 Children of the Corn films. What a waste, I have real no interest in seeing any of the others after watching this first one. Especially since I hear this is the best of the bunch.
