Alfonso Cuaron's Children of Men is a modern day masterpiece and is one of the best films I have seen in the last decade. I really had no idea what this film was before seeing it, my friends told me that it was brilliant so I checked it out immediately (thanks George and Matt!).

What makes this film the masterpiece it is, is the originality and execution of it all. This could have been some over the top Sci-Fi movie but it wasn't because the writers created this dark and realistic world that took place in the future.

I absolutely loved the world these writers created because it's something very different from what we've seen before and I thought that was incredible. The writers also did an excellent job at writing the story, I've seen this type of story done before but it's just the way it was all executed.

The type of story I talk about is a group of people go on one journey to get to point A to point B but like I said, it's all in the execution. The writers also do a very good job at adding some interesting elements to the story that were all done very well, overall this was just a fantastic story that was completely original.

When it comes to the writing you cant forget the dialogue, the dialogue in this film was written very well and even though this is a pretty dark movie some of the dialogue was pretty witty. I also cant forget about the characters, all the main characters were written very well and had enough background for me to care about them.

Now let me talk about the directing which was brilliant. Alfonso Cuaron's style in this film just completely blew me away. Cuaron knows how do create suspense and tension by putting the camera in one place and just keeping it there, also the lack of music in those scenes also created suspense.

One thing I liked about his style is that it kind of felt like a documentary, plus the cinematography and his style was a match made in heaven because the cinematography was gorgeous. The acting in this film was nothing short from phenomenal.

Clive Owen gives a knockout performance, Julianne Moore was great for her role, and Michael Caine was actually quite hysterical as a drug dealer. The supporting cast is also magnificent which includes Claire-Hope Ashitey, Chiwetel Ejiofor, and Pam Ferris.

In the end Children of Men is one of the most accomplished films in the past decade and is a film that I highly recommend checking out.
