Review of Children of Men (2006) by Charles R — 01 Aug 2013
A near-perfect sci-fi allegory that never lets you fall into a state of comfort for too long, instead presenting a sharp sci-fi premise that is as downright awe-inspiring as it is physically/mentally taxing.
In 2027 the world sits in a liminal purgatory, stuck in a much bleaker version of our current present-day with an odd anti-overpopulation problem. Cuaron weaves current culture into his dystopian opera seamlessly, and creates a totally believable futuristic society on the brink of collapse.
5/5 A must watch for any human.
