Review of Children of Men (2006) by Mark S — 28 Aug 2013
Alfonso Cuaron gives us a bleak future where the human race is dying out, most nations have collapsed, and all immigrants have been herded into massive ghettos. "Children of Men" is smart, raw and unflinching.
The high concept has a lot of potential for social commentary, but it tends to take the easy way out by sticking to the narrative. In spite of the movie's promise, the story isn't developed further and the resulting movie seems short.
Clive Owen is good, showing the rapid but believable transformation of Theo as the film progresses.
