Review of Children of a Lesser God (1986) by Katrine N — 19 Nov 2008
Enjoyable though predictable and very 80's-ish drama about the romance between a teacher at a school for the deaf and the 25-year-old deaf cleaning lady who never had neither the chance nor the sense of self worth to make something more of herself.
The movie is, unfortunately, seen solely from the point of view of William Hurt's character, thus leaving the viewer with no sense of what being deaf actually feels like. However, the acting of both leads is impressive - I enjoyed watching the sign language and admiring the grace and expressiveness of Marlee Matlin.
