Review of Children of a Lesser God (1986) by David J — 23 May 2009
Growing up with parents that use sign language often and attending a church with a deaf ministry while I was young, made me really appreciate the art of signing. To me it is such a beautiful thing. Even a romance language.
That's initially what attracted me to this movie that was nominated for 4 academy awards in 1986. Marlee Matlin ended up winning one of those for her performance (which was great). However, I feel like William Hurt did an equally good job, if not better.
A great relationship movie, but not necessarily a 'chick flick'. I wouldn't go out of my way to rent this movie, but if the concept interests you, you should check it out.
