Review of Chico & Rita (2010) by Sarfaraz A — 29 Feb 2012
Chico & Rita is much more than a mere love-themed time waster. It is.
More than an Afro-Cuban Jazz history lesson (though it doesn't hurt that many jazz greats, such as Dizzy Gilespe, Chano Pozo, and Tito Puente make animated cameos). It's even more than just an old-fashioned love song. The evocative and alluring animation, infused with irresistible music make for a familiar story told in a bold, new way that is equal parts sexy and bittersweet, high energy and low maintenance. What I'm trying to say is that Chico &Rita is a nostalgic, boldly attractive road trip that lovers of romance and music shouldn't pass up.
