Review of Chicago (2002) by David H — 06 May 2012
Not a huge fan of director Rob Marshall, but him directing this movie Chicago shows that he has talent. This movie Chicago is based on the hit Broadway show and it's about two woman named Velma Kelly and Roxie Hart and they find themselves on death row together and they both fight for the fame that will keep them from the gallows in 1920s Chicago.
Catherine Zeta-Jones and Renee Zellweger play the two leads, Richard Gere co-stars as there lawyer, Queen Latifah plays a prison guard named Mama Morton and John C. Reilly plays Roxie's husband Amos.
As for all these actors in this movie they all play pretty good roles, I really didn't find John C. Reilly very good in this because he usually does Comedy movies and I honestly I think he should stick to that.
Now as for Richard Gere he was a little better than John C. Reilly, his acting was really good but his singing not so much. Renee Zellweger and Queen Latifah were really good in this movie, they both got into there roles very well and they both have very talented singing voices.
But now we get to Catherine Zeta-Jones, she was phenomenal in this movie, seriously. Almost every scene she was in she dominated, her singing in this movie was powerful, her dancing was really sexy and her performance was top notch, you can really see why she won the Academy Award.
Anyways I should talk about the actual movie. This movie Chicago is not my favorite Musical but it sure is a good one. Chicago brings everything you want in a musical, it has great songs, great dancing and a very good cast.
Like I said I don't care for Rob Marshall very much, but he directed this movie very well, the camera shots worked really good, the stage setting was perfect and the movie was really clear on it's story.
So if you haven't seen this movie yet I would check it out, I know some guys will not like this movie because it's not an Action movie, but I say give this movie a chance because you might enjoy it.
