Review of Chicago 10 (2008) by Robbie M — 06 May 2008
Revelatory in this way: Abbie Hoffman, charismatic in his craziness, was a hottie, and I wish in 1968 I had been alive and grown up and he had been gay, and I bet we could have had fun in bed. The period footage is essential and priceless; the animated re-creations sub-par.
It would have been a far more successful film if it had been a more standard documentary--even though I can't believe I'm saying that. Still, it ought to be required viewing for today's protest kids (tip of the hat to the Velvets).
Peripheral causes, bland sit-ins: what happened to drugs, senses of humor, relevant outrage, and just plain creativity? No business will get done if you insist on being boring--and getting arrested certainly ain't enough, because that is the easiest thing to do of all.
