Review of Chéri (2009) by Cristian B — 09 Jul 2009
A visually rich period film. Not much occurs plot wise, but this is very much a character driven story. The dialogue is sharp and witty. The performances are top notch from a talented cast. Kathy Bates provides comedic relief throughout.
Rupert Friend is effective as the self absorbed Cheri. But the movie belongs to the luminous Pfeiffer, in one of her best performances. She gives a subtle, moving, and haunting performance. The movie is interesting in its exploration of relationships and age, especially with women.
A funny and touching movie.
