Review of Chef (2014) by Ben L — 15 Apr 2016
Like a food pundit, it's easy to nitpick this story to crumbs - I mean, in what world does a critic's ho-hum opinion go viral? But get past these minor annoyances, and you have a solid story here. This is Jon Favreau at his absolute best in a story that does a wonderful job highlighting the meaning-making that any employee is capable of creating in his/her job, no matter how seemingly insignificant that job is.
Add this to the fact that the movie has one of the best soundtracks in contemporary film, and you've got a recipe for success. Favreau took as much care in this film as Chef Casper takes care of Cuban sandwiches.
"I may not do everything great in my life, but I'm good at this. I manage to touch people's lives with what I do." - Chef Carl Casper.
