Review of Chef (2014) by Logan W — 01 Aug 2016
- I've now seen this 3 times and I've enjoyed it just as much each time. It's funny, entertaining, features great food, and is a very "human" story. check it out!
- Watched for a 2nd time, really enjoyed it again. Just a really nice movie, lots of great actors whom I like, and some great cooking. Also some good music. I watched some with commentary, and Favreau said he likes to make "hopeful" movies, and that's how I'd describe it. Well worth checking out!
- Great movie, I wish there were more like this. It's a simple, heartfelt story well told. I've always liked Favreau since I first saw him in "Swingers" and have a soft-spot for his first directorial effort "Made" which I've watched more times than I can count. This one features a top Chef who leaves his job and heads on a road-trip in a Food Truck with his son whom he's been disconnected from. Favreau can nail the heart-warming moments without drowning them in syrup.
There were several moments in the film where I expected different reactions from characters, big "movie moments", but Favreau was restrained and made them more natural and real.
Then there's the killer cast, along with writer/director Favreau who also stars, you have Vergara, Johannson, Downey Jr., Platt, Cannavale, Leguizamo and Dustin Hoffman!
The food is awesome, warning you now it will make you very hungry for some good food afterwards, so time it accordingly.
This is a great movie, support it and see it in theatres, it'd be great to see more movies like this based on story and not VFX and/or violence!
