Review of Cheap Thrills (2013) by The V — 14 Apr 2014
Amazing! This little low budget thrill ride is one of the darkest movies of 2014. It deals with a mechanic who just got fired and is about to lose his apartment which would send him and his wife and baby out on the streets.
He meets up with an old buddy for whom they end up shacking up with a strange couple that are tossing money around as long as these two guys do really stupid things. Like hit someone or steal something.
Then boom! They're given cash! Soon the challenges become more and more disturbing as the night goes on, pushing the boundaries of these two men to the point where they must decide what is the most important: Money or Sanity? This was a very dark, very morbidly funny piece of misanthropic shenanigans.
To sum it all up in a few words, I think David Koechner says it best: "That was grim." Oh Yes it is! One of the best of 2014.
