Review of Che: Part One (2008) by Samantha S — 18 Apr 2009

Excellent film-making from one of modern Independent cinema's pioneers coupled with an astonishing lead performance make for compelling and enlightening viewing. Soderbergh's newsreel-alike camera work will make you wonder if he's really the same guy who did the Ocean's films and while the story structure maybe a little disjointed it works nonetheless.

Benecio proves himself to be in a league of his own (and should've been giving Sean and Mickey a run for their money if there was any justice) with a performance that soon ceases to be acting. He is Che.

As a bit of a novice to this bit of history I found it all fascinating, but those more familiar with the subject might feel the need to nit-pick. Tell them to shut up. Despite being the first of 2 films, this more than ably stands on its own...
