Review of Che: Part One (2008) by Phil T — 25 Aug 2009
Admittedly, I don't know anything about film making so I won't go into much with regards to that. I don't even know anything about Ernesto 'Che' Guevara, apart from the fact he's something to do with a revolution that happened in Cuba ages ago, so for me to watch a film like this was always going to be tough.
No doubt folk out there thought Soderbergh has done a stunning job, capturing the essence of the fight, of the mood of it's people and their passion to remove the Bastilia. However, one thing that just bothered me through all of it's two-hour running time was the fact that is just wasn't entertaining.
While Del Toro was born to play this role (and he acts his heart out I tell you) this revolution was rather dull. I loved the back of the DVD box that promises a "....pulsating and pounding climax" at the end of Part 1. Well, I'm sorry to spoil it for you, but it's not. I was on the edge of my seat yes, I was ready to turn it off for the Leeds final score.
A couple of stars for Del Toro and for Andy for lending me the DVD. At least I didn't buy it!! Lol.
