Review of Chasing Mavericks (2012) by Dee R — 20 Mar 2013
I have grown up and know and shot every location here in the movie like the back of my hand - the cinematography is stunning and including what ever CGI that is in there recreating an el Nino. I guess I felll for the story too having lost my Dad and scattered his ashes near San Gregorio beach south of Mavericks.
This is not a Hollywood action pic but rather a poem and life lessons. If you want a warm and beautiful movie with some heart and ache, this is it. I think the filmmakers did an excellent job telling the story that they wanted to tell.
Sadly unlike Karate Kid, it doesn't have the world wide appeal as most people do not relate or live by the sea. If you love the sea, you will like this... for a real SPIRITUAL MOVIE that also didn't so well with Neal Diamond + a great book - Jonathan Livingston Seagull - it gets a bit artsy at the end... but beautiful Big Sur Photography again.
