Review of Chasing Amy (1997) by Eric C — 21 Oct 2009
This was a great attempt from Kevin Smith to add more drama in his crude humor atmosphere. Here he takes some real life issues and let's loose.
What would you do if one day you found out the female you are falling for is a lesbian, than you turned her out and than found out her sorted past?
Well Kevin Smith hilariously points that answer out, in his own way. Ben Affleck by this point hadn't yet established himself too much. He had a bit cameo in Buffy The Vampire Slayer and was a co star in Mallrats. Here he is the main star and holds it up very well. Jason Lee returns to the world of Kevin Smith as Banky, Holden's obsessively protective best friend/comic book partner. I love this actor, just about all his films are just great. Definitely someone that belongs in this world.
Joey Lauren Adams plays the object of Affleck's desire Alyssa. Her performance in this is amazing, really she has definitely shown that her acting ability since Mallrats has grown(she played Gwen). At the time of this film, Kevin Smith was dating her(he met her on the set of Mallrats)and even to this day they remain good friends.
The rest of the cast as always gives a great performance, this also goes to Jason Mewes and Kevin Smith, who make a cameo appearance in this film as their alter ego's.
4 out of 5.
