Review of Chasing Amy (1997) by Jackson A — 02 Jan 2014
Hooper: [waves a dollar at Banky] Here.
Banky Edwards (Jason Lee): What?
Hooper: I want you to go down to the corner store, and buy yourself a clue.
With much respect to director Kevin Smith, but what is this fascination with Ben Affleck? I like this movie, the idea was pretty interesting but Ben Affleck couldn't act his way out of a paper bag. I'm sorry, I know they have some kind of bro-mance but seriously, the supporting casts' performances was so much better that it made Affleck's acting seem all the more wooden. Most definitely Jason Lee should have had first dibs on the lead role; heck, even Mewes' coffee shop scene was more engaging than Affleck. Anyways, enough panning Affleck, onto the film review: overall, the idea was great. Definitely, as with many of director Smith's other films, the dialogue was the true star of the film. He truly is a wordsmith when it comes to banter and is the most enjoyable part of the film. The direction was well executed and the ending was truly inspired and most gratifying.
