Review of Charlie Countryman (2013) by Jake S — 10 Nov 2013
The best way I can describe it is a romance, adventure, comedy, noir. And it surprisingly does well traversing each of those aspects. There's nothing profound in this movie, but it was a blast to watch, which is why I see films in the first place.
The way it's filmed is very hyper-stylized and surreal, sometimes even so surreal it looks like a very well made animated film but that was only in a few small bits. It's fun and energetic and consistently surprising.
The arc of the story isn't very surprising but there were small surprises often, either to be funny or to just throw something crazy in the mix.
