Review of Chappaquiddick (2018) by Gary W — 13 Apr 2018
I loved Jason Clarke in Brotherhood, the cable show about two brothers whose lives took very different paths. This role was a fool's errand as the Kennedy's are so hard to portray accurately. Only the recorded interviews of the time showed how mesmerized the country was with the families fame and tragedy. He was able to show Ted's frailty and uncertainty although capturing what it was like living in the shadow of the most influential siblings in history was far more of the real story. It was Bobby more than Jack. JFK was flawed but charismatic. Robert was the savior. Ted was the other one, always the other one. Here he is portrayed as the stupid one.
The supporting cast was disjointed and though familiar faces, none embodied their role.
Ambitious yet catastrophic failure that I blame on the producers. It should have never been greenlit.
