Review of Chaplin (2011) by Robert C — 06 Aug 2010
Downey's great, duh. But I feel like the movie is a bit choppy chronologically. The highlights of his youth are speed over and most of the film is set in his older years with the activist stuff. I got really confused with all the wives who just breeze in and out of the film.
There aren't really any scenes with Chaplin and his kids (you'd never think he had any) and there's no real insight into how Charlie perfected his craft both in front and behind the camera.
This film just sort of implies it was all 'automatic genius'. Still, its good stuff.
