Review of Chaplin (1992) by Anton B — 07 Jun 2009
An adequate biopic, but not as charming, entertaining, or provocative as a film about the life of Charlie Chaplin could have been. Apart from a few amusing scenes, Richard Attenborough's direction is too stiff.
Likewise, the score contains too much sad piano music. Thankfully, at the centre of the film is a strong performance by Robert Downey Jr. as Chaplin; indeed, he is almost unrecognizable when he dons the Little Tramp's makeup and costume.
