Review of Chaplin (1992) by Roxy G — 11 Jul 2010
We're dealing with a great biography of the famous Chaplin. Robert Downey Jr. performs amazingly proving to have well studied and understood Chaplin's genius. However, there would have been great if the director had shown the profound side of Chaplin as an intriguing personality: it has been an attempt in showing his childhood drama, but the genius of the actor would have deserved more.
... The make-up was extraordinary ! Great actors like Kevin Kline and Anthony Hopkins make this artistic creation shine even more....Though Geraldine Chaplin cannot be viewed as a great actress, still she plays a very emotional part quite convincing (she's obviously emotionally involved more than we can imagine!) Downey Jr.
is charming and his acting is so forceful, especially in the end when he impersonates Chaplin's moving reaction watching himself as a young actor, while he's an old man waiting for the reward of his lifetime.
