Review of Changing Lanes (2002) by Daniel K — 31 May 2009
2: Roger Michell certainly seems to be an underrated director in my opinion. He has turned out one spectacular film and a couple quality ones (granted he did have Jane Austen's assistance for his best work, but he still made the definitive version of Persuasion).
I can't say that I'm a fan of Jackson, but he keeps it reasonably toned down and believable here. He too often simply seems to play the same character over and over, or at least he turns every character he plays into yet another variation on a common theme.
Affleck is reasonably watchable too. It struck me that this was simply a far less interesting, shorter, and less incisive version of the television series Damages. They both cover similar ground, but the television series does so far more effectively.
I compare the two mainly because I recently finished season two of Damages.
