Review of Cesar Chavez (2014) by Amy H — 14 Apr 2014
It's a sad sight to see a film with so much potential falls flat on its face. Michael Pena (Crash, End of Watch) looks ready to rip as the iconic workers' rights leader Cesar Chavez, who led a nonviolent civil rights movement for Mexican migrant workers, an issue still frustratingly relevant today, but he's severely sidelined by a rote script and nothing resembling three-dimensionality.
Actor Diego Luna makes his feature debut as a director but he's yet to show any instinct for such a rich subject beyond hagiography. Chavez deserved so much better.
