Review of Certified Copy (2010) by Leon B — 05 Apr 2011
This movie shows us and reminds us of the beauty of Italy and the simplicity of how life looks or can be. That being said, the main couple is showing us how they complicate their lives in such a simple world.
The ending is typical french, in a way where both scenarios are possible (James either left or stayed with his wife). I think that optimistic people would like to believe that after all, he decided to stay and give his family "that" chance.
On the other hand, the people who always see the empty side of the class tend to believe that he went to catch his plane, and that would really make the whole movie depressing. I am rather one of those who believe in hope, and I'd like to believe that he ended up staying with his wife.
The picture of the very old couple will remain engraved in my mind as it was, I find, the most touching scene in the whole movie.
