Review of Centurion (2010) by Jill M — 21 Jan 2011
Grizzly. This film was probably the most bloodthirsty I have seen in a long time if not ever.
The film is a tale about some Roman Soldiers trying to do away with the Picts aka Jockos.
There are so many explosions of blood in this film its frankly ridiculous. After a while you get used to it though and the various impaling methods cease to stun you.
Its not without merit though and there are some fine moments. Fassbender and West are both fine dare I say it up and coming actors.
The whole film does lack something though, its essentially a bit of a bloodfest and while the director tries to make you believe this is something of a Gladiator type film with honour and valor and the man getting his team back home its rather less than that and frankly way too much time is spent on the exploding gore.
Favourite scene : (The highly improbable) massive rolling balls of fire thudding into the 9th legion while they try to protect themselves. Seriously the logistics behind that must have been ridiculous.
