Review of Centurion (2010) by Mike C — 02 Dec 2010
I'm always a little sceptical when I see so Lottery and UK Film council involvement and always have to remind myself they are just the bag men. Anyhow this is fairly typical action/adventure movie set back during the occupation of Britain by the Romans and the conflict with the Picts. Other movies have used this backdrop most notably the Clive Owen vehicle "King Arthur" and the two movies are pretty evenly matched, There is no great complexity to the story but the cinematography is excellent as are the set piece battles and mix of characters. Centurion goes a bit over the top with the CGI blood but I'll forgive them for that, I'll even forgive them for being fans of Spartacus (you'll know what I mean when you watch the movie).
Dominic West is great to watch in almost anything and Michael Fassbender (last seen in Devils Whore) is a solid lead and plays the tragic hero pretty well.
Recommended for when you have an hour and a half to kill.
