Review of Centurion (2010) by Sam C — 12 Dec 2010
It seems that Neil Marshall has already hit the high point of his career two films ago . . .
As a fan of Marshall I was pretty excited when I first heard word of Centurion. However, my excitement began to falter about twenty minutes into this movie. Granted, Centurion is a hack n' slash fest that will appease anyone who likes to watch violent movies, but the paper thin characters make you care even less about all the dismembered limbs flying through the air. And honestly, how often do we see female warrior characters who never wear armor, yet somehow make it through the entire movie without dying?
The premise is a fantasy rendition based off the story of the Ninth Legion. No one knows what became of these Roman warriors, but Marshall takes a shot in the dark for this action thriller. I enjoyed Doomsday for all its quirky fun, but Centurion is just bad, bland and boring. I'm willing to give Marshall another shot, but this time around I won't be expecting much.
