Review of Centurion (2010) by Sarah G — 13 Mar 2011
I watched it because of its chosen time and place in history, which I find interesting. However, the scenery of Scotland was the best part of the movie, sadly. The story had potential but it seemed to try to maintain an objective viewpoint of the Romans (invaders) and Picts (defenders), leaning toward a more positive depiction of the Romans since it seems to focus on them more.
While I appreciate trying to look at history objectively, this is simply not a recipe for a good, enjoyable movie. You need someone to cheer for and I couldn't help but feel like the people I felt like cheering for (the Picts) were getting a crap story.
The last five minutes of the movie, however, were good but would have had more impact of we had more backstory and thus sympathy for the main character and the decisions he makes at the end of the movie.
