Review of Centurion (2010) by Ryan M — 12 Jan 2011
Centurion has the foundation for a good film, but skimps on all the details and characterization required. Itâ(TM)s more concerned with hitting an action beat every 15 minutes and telling the audience exactly whatâ(TM)s going on, and what our heroes have to do.
Thereâ(TM)s a handful of interesting characters here but theyâ(TM)re never given a moment to shine. What does shine, however, is they plethora of CG blood. Blood here, guts there . . . you almost forget how desaturated the movie is until someone gets their head chopped off.
I imagine those fond of 300 will feel at home here. Thereâ(TM)s blood, a lot of yelling and a quick pace. Iâ(TM)d like more from writer/director Neil Marshall, who brought us one of the greater modern horror movies in The Descent.
