Review of Cemetery Man (1994) by Joey L — 26 Mar 2009
Cemetery Man is a cerebral horror film with a lot going on just below its seemingly campy surface. Expect the following exact sequence of events to transpire as you watch this film and to continue into the weeks and months afterwards: 1: You will be amused at the slapstick horror / comedy hybrid material.
2: You will be confused, confounded and annoyed 3/4 of the way into the movie as it pulls a massive u-turn and heads into a wildly different direction. 3: You will be royally pissed as the credits role because you totally didn't get the ending.
You will consider classifying the movie as an utter failure. 4: In the days following viewing the movie, you will be surprised to find yourself continuing to think about bits and pieces of it and you will slowly piece some of it together.
5: Fuelled by the maddening nature of not being able to get the movie out of your head, you will look for an analysis of it on the internet and then you will fully understand it. You will reclassify it as a great trippy movie.
6: Some months down the road you will find yourself compelled to watch it again.
