Review of Cemetery Junction (2010) by Steven M — 22 Aug 2010
PLOT: 1973 in England, three good friends Freddie (Christian Cooke), Bruce (Tom Hughes) and Snork (Jack Doolan) spend their days pulling pranks, fighting and boozing. Freddie dreams of one day leaving this small dead-end town for hopes of a big house, a fancy car, and a wife.
Slick, charming, bad boy Bruce is the one that says he is ready to leave but never does and sweet but simple Snork is happy with life exactly the way it is. When Freddie gets a new job as a door-to-door salesman he dreams seem to be within his grasp but when he is reunited with an old friend, Julie (Felicity Jones), the gang is forced to examine their lives and decide what it is that they really want in life.
REVIEW: I knew absolutely nothing about this film, not even the plot therefore I had not expectations. After watching I have decided that this film was a decent comedy. It wasn't laugh out loud funny the whole time but I did have a few good laughs.
Ricky Gervais co-wrote and co-directed a coming of age tales that is witty and relatable. The overall plot has a common feel but is good, and this film has good characterizations. I enjoyed the acting from almost the entire cast.
In this film (even though he only has a small role) I think Ricky Gervais makes a better writer than actor. This film is merely good: good acting, good directing, good writing. Nothing great, merely good.
I would recommend this as a good "light" comedy to those who are interested.
