Review of Cemetery Junction (2010) by Aaron S — 20 Sep 2010
A very well written, coming of age story set in 70's England about a kid in a factory town, who doesn't want to end up like his father, played by Ricky Gervais, so he ends up following the career path of someone from his town who got out and became wealthy, a life insurance company head, played by Ralf Fiennes. Along the way he runs into an old friend, a girl who has grown up nicely, a "bird" who he fancies.
Problem is, she is engaged to his Boss's right hand man, played by a devilish Matthew Goode. The kid soon finds out that life as a hobnobbing Life Insurance Salesman isn't all it's cracked up to be once his friends embarrass him at a gathering for his company, and he begins to see the real side of his boss, and their lifestyle.
Look for a great side character played by one of his friends, Snork, who loves to tell people why they call him Snork, and show off his awful and vulgar tattoos. But even Snork finds love in this great coming of age tale, by the near legendary Ricky Gervais. Enjoy!
