Review of Cellular (2004) by Calum B — 17 Sep 2012
I wasn't disappointed by this film and as has been said in previous reviews it is a fun film if not taken too seriously. The plot is shaky and frankly laughable as it unfolds with each new twist but the acting is good and the fast pace does keep the viewer interested.
I thought Kim Basinger's character Jessica was well thought out if not a little unbelievable at her initial lack of panic at being abducted and even more amazing at how in such a short space of time she managed to find the gumption and ability to re-wire the phone and contact 1 in a million reluctant hero Ryan, played by Chris Evans.
The film has some good sequences and I thought the casting of Jason Stratham as the sinister bad guy Greer and William H Macy as world weary copper Mooney was good but not outstanding.
All in all Cellular is nothing special but worth a watch and has the true old fashioned happy ending.
Special note has to be made to Jessica's 'apology' to the 300ib gorilla of a man after mortally wounding him late on in the film.
