Review of Céline and Julie Go Boating (1974) by Firas M — 09 Dec 2008
I must admit I was pretty upset at the running time of this specially for what is supposed to be a playfull film with unpredictable outcome. If you want to watch a long film that passes by you with ease go watch the masterpiece Brighter Summer day's 4 hours.
And if you want an experimental narrative breaking film that toys with expectations, funnier AND adds relevant social commentary then watch Oshima's 1968 Three Resurected Drunkards. Came out way ahead of this film and is way more playfull.
C&J probably got more exposure due to the hypnotic and drug references during the 70s movement. At the end, I would have enjoyed it more if it was half the length.
