Review of Cedar Rapids (2011) by Dana A — 10 Aug 2011
This might have a cheesy shell, but it's really a great movie underneath. Cedar Rabids has its fair share of overly goofy humor, basically all from Ed Helms, but it has a lot of elements that make it a comedy that is worthy of your time.
John C. Reilly completely dominates the movie, practically everything he says is hilarious and his character was just so perfect. Anne Heche and Isiah Whitlock also work extremely well as goofy-yet-normal characters.
What's surprising about Cedar Rapids is its ability to deliver really genuine moments. The film is pretty simple and somewhat slow paced. It's not frequently laugh out loud funny but it does have plenty of good jokes and laughable situations.
Good cast filling them out with good performances. "Cedar Rapids" has a good heart as well, although it delivers a pretty simple and predictable message.
