Review of Cedar Rapids (2011) by Jeffrey B — 10 Aug 2013
Ed Helms is a very likable guy, and is great in supporting parts in The Office and The Hangover. But after watching this I'm not sure he's leading man material. This movie is less than 90 minutes and feels too long.
It's just not funny. They use cheap tricks to try to get laughs - an awkward hug between two naked men, John C. Reilly's unnecessarily dirty mouth. Every scene with Sigourney Weaver made me cringe.
The fish out of water story can work, but when your main character is so naive that it doesn't seem like he's ever been around other humans, it just comes off more awkward than funny.
