Review of Cave of Forgotten Dreams (2010) by Derek S — 12 May 2011
Besides Avatar, this is the only film where I've understood why it's in 3D. Amazing to experience the cave with all it's contours while examining the paintings. I wish Herzog had pursued the line of inquiry about the spirituality and art of stone age people in the modern era - Australian aboriginals and the Arctic Inuit - as a means of peering back 35,000 years.
Also the gator infested greenhouse was a very odd means of making a point about the human experience. I hope it was done with intention, to force a Brechtian Verfremdungseffekt upon the viewing audience.
