Review of Catfish (2010) by Paul P — 17 Dec 2011
Most people have heard of stories like the one in 'Catfish' and if you've been on Facebook or Myspace for any length of time you might know a person who has been involved in it or you might have been directly involved yourself.
So the set up to the documentary/mockumentary/smoke and mirrors film is very sexy. It starts very cute and funny. Then things start to unfold. When things are revealed in the film it isn't so much shocking as much as it is surprising as how much emotional weight they carry.
It makes a quality statement on the entire social networking world. The filmmakers say this is real and the events aren't fabricated and I hope that is the truth. Its obviously a stronger impact if that's the case but more importantly there are some scenes involving children that are flat out gross manipulation if they turn out to be fabricated, I really hope this story is true.
