Review of Catch a Fire (2006) by Dustin L — 20 Feb 2007
A powerful and unforgettable film! I really wasn't too interested in seeing the movie at first because the previews didn't say much but i'm glad I gave the movie a chance. I love movies that are based on true stories and especially when the actual people on which the movies are based on are involved in making the movie.
The movie reminds me in a way of In The Name of The Father with Daniel Day-Lewis because it is based on someone being accused of something they didn't do. Derek Luke gives his best performance to date, he plays his role with so much emotion that I think he should have been nominated for an Oscar.
Tim Robbins on the other hand didn't do so well in his role, he was pretty convincing but I guess it was the accent that didn't fit him. I could have pictured other actors who would have done a better job.
There have been a handful of movies this year that have been based on tragedies in Africa and although this movie doesn't have such a cast as Blood Diamond, it is definitely almost as good. A must see!
