Review of Catch-22 (1970) by Jenna I — 20 Nov 2010
I found the film a lot less confusing this time round, having finally read the book. Catch-22 (the novel) is almost too clever for its own good and while the narrative is entertaining, the non-linearity of the plot gets VERY disorientating at times.
The story in the film unfolds much more the "right" order, which helps a lot, but without the details that are only in the book, you miss out on a lot of the back-story of the characters and their relationships and rivalries, even if you now have faces for the characters.
So for me, it is a good film but not a masterpiece.
