Review of Cat People (1942) by Nick G — 12 Jan 2011
A minor classic and a great exercise in tension built through an effective (and economical) script, good editing, and the masterful use of light and shadow.
Simone Simon evokes both pity and fear in the role of Irena, a Serbian woman who may in fact turn into a fierce panther when filled with "passion." Simple, effective, and technically precise, this is one of only a few horror movies I can wholeheartedly recommend.
