Review of Cat on a Hot Tin Roof (1958) by Alice S — 23 Feb 2009
The performances by all are superb but special mention must be made about the work by Burl Ives, Paul Newman (in his first Oscar nominated performance) and Elizabeth Taylor. The acting is so much the better given the source material they had to work with.
Although a most of the scenes are dialogue laden and the entire action take splace within the mansion and within half a day there is barely a dull moment thanks the skilful direction and exceptional performances.
Some of the more controversial parts of Williams' play were rewritten particularly the relationship between Newman and his high school friend but for the most part it has remained intact.
