Whilst Tennessee Williams was unhappy with his adaptation of his work, this is a tremendous piece of drama that stands on it's own merits, despite deviating from it's source material. The two leads do a terrific job, but Burl Ives as Big Daddy is superb.

The scenes involving Ives and Newman are intense and very well acted, especially the basement scene. The characters are well-thought out and you develop an affinity towards them, something that is all too lacking in modern pictures.

Elizabeth Taylor (who looks simply stunning in that white dress) was terrific as the aforementioned cat too. A classic that is worth watching.
