Review of Cast No Shadow (2014) by Amanda C — 25 Apr 2015
A dark and moody fairytale of a young boy who collects gold to pay off murderous troll, Cast No Shadow boasts a strong performance from its young lead and a very distinctively Newfound voice from screenwriter Joel Thomas Hynes and dirctor Christian Sparkes.
It's a film that on paper shouldn't work, but somehow manages to combine onscreen in some sort of alchemy where everything just Olay off each other beautifully. A few of the metaphors are a bit on the nose, but that hardly matters when the mystical and real are so deftly handled as the film transitions between the two until you can't tell where one ends and the other begins.
