Review of Coco (2017) by Amanda C — 30 Jun 2018
"Coco", released in 2017 is about a young boy, Miguel, who seeks validation for his intrigue to be a musician, despite his families' ban on music. Through his quest, he inadvertently finds himself caught up in the afterlife with his deceased family members on dia de los muertos.
I have to say that not many films give me the emotional reaction that "Coco" did. I laughed, I cried, and truly felt emotionally connected with the film by the end. I think that the story was incredibly well done.
The animation was so beautiful and so colorful. I love that they painted the land of the dead out to be a world of color, rather than the "doom and gloom" that it is often associated with. It felt to really support the message of the film, which was that life after death might not be so tragic as it seems.
It added to the truly heartfelt and poetic nature of the film. The music and the acting were truly beautiful. I feel that they did a great job of casting people whose voices really encompassed the characters.
The young boy who voiced Miguel was especially wonderful! Overall, I have to say I truly enjoyed every aspect of "Coco". It was so delightfully well done in every way, shape, and form. It is one that I would be happy to watch again and again.
